Exhibition from October 16 to November 7, 2025
Chromatic notes, both visual and sonic, break away from the realm of the possible diatonic and restrictive field of academic painting to give free rein to improvisation and creativity. In music as in painting, chromaticism is intended, through its rough edges, to give personality to the work produced. To explore chromatic notes is to punctuate one’s score with accidentals—arbitrary, yet radiant with singularity. Likewise, in painting, chromaticism brings life to the dull, lightly sketched forms of the line. As soon as colour comes into play, the work takes on another dimension.
The ambition of this exhibition is to bring these two artists, with their differing visions, into dialogue. The answer to their work lies in their artworks, but the question that underpins it lies with the observer. Beyond their work on colour and form, they coexist through divergent themes. Dream and mysticism for Théophile Arcelin, and feminine sensuality for Lavenair.
This exhibition is an opportunity for Galerie de la Clé to explore new horizons. It highlights a personal, felt interpretation of the chromatisms of reality.
